MEET MEGAN YERXA

PRE-LICENSED THERAPIST

Hi, I’m Megan (she/they), a pre-licensed therapist offering individual counselling for adults, youth, and children in-person and online sessions.

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve spent a lifetime being the strong one, the caretaker, or the one who “should” have it all together. Whether you’ve done some healing work before or are just beginning, I’m here to offer a space where we go gently, stay curious, and center the strengths you already carry.

Clients often come to me when something in their life or in themselves doesn’t feel quite right anymore. Maybe old survival strategies aren’t working the way they used to. Maybe you’re carrying memories that feel too heavy, stuck in patterns that no longer fit, or yearning to feel more at home in your own body, relationships, or identity. My role is to walk alongside you as we explore what’s getting in the way and help make room for the self-trust, clarity, and connection you’re ready to build.

I work with people navigating a wide range of experiences, from long-standing patterns to more recent challenges. You might not have a clear name for what’s going on, just a sense that something isn’t working or that you’re showing up in ways that don’t feel true to who you are. Some common themes in my work include trauma, identity exploration, people-pleasing, and relationship or family stress, but your story doesn’t have to fit neatly into any one category. Many of the folks I support grew up in families that seemed “fine” on the surface but where their emotional needs were overlooked or misunderstood. Others have lived through emotional neglect, high-control or coercive dynamics, or identity-based harm. Wherever you’re starting from, we’ll work together to create more space, understanding, and connection in your life.

I also offer creative, relational, and developmentally attuned therapy for children and teens who are working through big feelings, school or social stress, identity development, or family transitions. Whether I’m supporting kids or adults, I prioritize safety, collaboration, and honoring your pace, always aiming to move in a way that doesn’t overwhelm your system.

My practice is rooted in trauma-informed, attachment-focused approaches like EMDR, AEDP, parts work, and narrative therapy These modalities help us gently process what’s been too much to carry alone and reconnect with the parts of you that already hold wisdom, resilience, and care. But more than any one method, I believe healing happens in relationship, when you feel seen, safe, and in charge of your own story.

As a queer and genderqueer person, I bring lived experience and a deep respect for how our identities shape our stories and our healing. I strive to create a space that welcomes all of who you are, including the parts that feel too much, too messy, or too tender.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade working with survivors of intimate partner violence, systemic oppression, and traumatic loss. That work continues to ground my belief in your inner wisdom and in the power of being supported without judgment or urgency. Outside of therapy, you’ll usually find me on long walks with my service dog in training, catching up with friends over good food or coffees, running in the forest, or watching a show on the couch with my husband.

If you’re curious about what therapy could look like or ready to begin, I’d be honoured to connect.

LAUGHTER

Laughter is more than just a reaction; it’s a fundamental value that enriches our lives and relationships. Embracing laughter fosters a sense of connection, eases tension, and brings lightness to even the most challenging moments. It creates an atmosphere of joy and openness, encouraging us to face difficulties with a positive spirit. By valuing laughter, we acknowledge its power to heal, unite, and uplift, making our interactions more genuine and our experiences more fulfilling.

CONNECTION

I firmly believe we are wired to connect. Connection is at the heart of meaningful relationships and personal growth. Valuing connection means prioritizing authentic engagement and understanding, fostering deep and supportive bonds with others. By embracing connection, we enrich our lives and those of others, building a foundation of trust and collaboration that enhances our collective well-being and strengthens our communities.

CURIOSITY

Curiosity is a guiding value that brings kindness to both self-inquiry and life navigation. By approaching our thoughts and feelings with curiosity, we explore our inner world with patience and understanding, fostering self-compassion and personal growth. This open-minded approach helps us embrace our true selves without judgment. Additionally, curiosity serves as a powerful tool for navigating life’s challenges, encouraging us to view obstacles as opportunities for learning and innovation. Embracing curiosity enriches our journey, making life a continuous adventure of discovery and growth.
